ALIYEV ELCHIN

Elchin Tofig oglu Aliyev was born in Baku in 1967, September 18,.

In 1974 – 1984 he studied at secondary school number 160.

In 1984, he entered the Faculty of Architecture of the Azerbaijan Civil Engineering Institute, which he graduated with honors in 1989.

In 1987 he completed practical training at S.V.S.T. (Slovak Higher Technical School, Bratislava).

In 1988, in Moscow (Russia), he had been elected as a Chairman of the South-Caucasian Section, of the USSR Society of Young Architects.

Since 1989, a member of the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan.

Since 1994 Member of the Board of the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan.

Since 1998, a member of the Union of Designers of Azerbaijan.

In 1998, he defended his dissertation on architecture on the topic: «Socio-spatial organization of the urban environment in the metropolitan center of Baku».

In 2002, he was awarded the Order of St. Sergiy Radonezhsky by the Russian Orthodox Church for the design and management of the restoration of the building of the Church of the Holy Women of Myrrh Bearing in the city of Baku.

In 2004, the winner of the First Baku International Architectural Competition held by «ItalDizayn».

In 2004-2005, he was Plenipotentiary Representative of the Roman Catholic Church (Vatican City) in Azerbaijan on all issues related to the design and construction of a Catholic church in Baku.

In 2007, according to the project of Aliyev E.T. (together with architect Paolo Rugeiro) a Catholic church of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Virgin Mary was built in Baku.

In 2007 he was awarded the «Honorary Golden Badge» by the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan.

In 2011, based on the project of Aliyev E.T. The Jotari church was reconstructed in the village of Nij, Gabala region of Azerbaijan.

From 2012 to 2017, he worked as Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan.

In 2013, he was awarded the title of Ustad Memar by the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan.

In 2013, he was awarded an Honorary Diploma of the First Baku International Architectural Competition.

In 2014 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: «Design of a modern interior in Azerbaijan».

In 2014, at the XXV World Congress of Architects in Durban (South Africa), he was elected a member of the Commission on Work with Youth of the International Union of Architects (UIA).

Since 2015, he is a Professor at Western University in Baku.

In 2015, he was awarded an Honorary Diploma of the Second Baku International Architectural Competition.

In 2015, the Atrium Shikhov residential complex project was awarded the First Degree Diploma of the XIII International Review Competition for the best project (construction) of the year among the countries of Eastern Europe and the CIS.

In 2016, according to the project of Aliyev E.T., in the village of Zira located in Absheron peninsula, the Friday Mosque in memory of Aydin Kurbanov was built with funds from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Samed Kurbanov.

In 2016, the book «Baku Architecture of the Constructivism period, 1920-1930s» was awarded the First Degree Diploma of the XIV International Review Competition for the best print publication of the year among the countries of Eastern Europe and the CIS.

In 2016, Aliev E.T. was elected President of the Baku Architectural Club.

In 2017, Aliev E.T. established (together with the writer G.A.Rzayeva) the Intellectuals Club «Pəncərə – mədəniyyətə baxış».

In 2018 architect Aliyev E.T. was nominated for the Aga Khan Award in Architecture for the project of a mosque in the village of Zira.

Since 2018, a member of the Writers’ Union of Azerbaijan.

For thirty-five years of professional career, he designed and implemented over 70 architectural and design projects. Projects of architect Aliyev E.T. received various awards and prizes in Russia, Iran, Turkey, France, Germany, Georgia.

Participant of the World Congress of Architecture in 2008 (Turin, Italy), 2011 (Tokyo, Japan), 2014 (Durban, South Africa).

Aliyev E.T. was awarded diplomas and gratitude’s from the unions of architects and designers of other countries, the International Association of Architects’ Associations, the International Academy of Oriental Architecture, the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, other state, private and international organizations.

Books written by Aliyev E.T. «Facade sculptures of Baku», «Doors and front doors of Baku» were published by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and the book «Baku Architecture of the Constructivism period, 1920-1930s» was published with funds from the Presidential Fund of the President of Azerbaijan.

Currently he is a member of the Commission on Work with Youth of the International Union of Architects (UIA), Chairman of the State Certification Commission and professor at Western University in Baku.

He is the author of 20 books and 160 scientific articles in the field of architecture, design and urban planning.
