Independence Day is celebrated in Azerbaijan on 28 May. The holiday has been celebrated since 1990, actually since the restoration of the country’s independence. On 28 May 1918, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (1918-1920), the first secular and democratic state in the Islamic East, was formed and the “Declaration of Independence” was signed.
